Gabriel Finn
Biography
Gabriel Finn is a UK-based lighting designer, who creates work for opera, theatre and dance. He graduated from Durham University in 2016 with a Music degree, in which he focused on culturally restrictive frameworks within ethnomusicology, electro-acoustic composition and researching the structural role of the internet in developing musical subcultures.
Gabriel is interested in using theatre as a vehicle for radical thought and the subversion of entrenched power structures, particularly in reference to intersectional feminism and the expression of queer identity. Recent lighting & video designs include: Chaplin: Birth of a Tramp (Brockley Jack), Magdalene (Old Diorama), We the Young Strong (Bloomsbury Theatre) & Viola (UK Tour). While supporting other designers, Gabriel has also worked as an assistant and programmer at venues which include the Peacock Theatre, Somerset House, Glyndebourne and Royal Opera House.
Besides his work with light, Gabriel continues to foster his links with classical music, and works regularly with the International Musicians Seminar in Cornwall. He also keenly pursues his passions for jazz and offshore sailing, and has recently returned from a sabbatical in which he completed a double-handed crossing of the Atlantic.
