John Harris
Biography
John Harris started in the West End at the Adelphi Theatre. He was Chief Electrician at the Shaftesbury Theatre until 1995. He became Andy Philip’s assistant, with whom he worked on many productions in the provinces and the West End.
As a lighting designer, he has lit over 100 plays, musicals and operas. He has lit many pantomimes including: The Snow Queen, Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty for Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
As a vari-lite programmer and crew chief, he has worked around the world, including Boheme, Tosca, Aida, Madam Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall for Raymond Gubbay.
John’s work has included: Lighting Designer for Sunset Song, Silver Darlings and The Cone Gatherers (His Majesties Theatre, Aberdeen and Edinburgh Festival). John used to design regularly at The Orange Tree Theatre, under Sam Walters. He has worked as Associate Lighting Designer on Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre for Cameron Mackintosh. John opened the Broadway musical Memphis at the Shaftesbury Theatre as Associate Lighting Designer and restaged Hairspray at the London Coliseum.
As a Founder Director of The Company Presents, John has produced and promoted many shows including: Romeo and Juliet (Nuffield Theatre and Barbados) and Will at the Weald in 2006, 2007 and 2008. John was Theatre Producer for Sky Arts’ Theatre Live – six new plays broadcast live over six weeks in 2009. The Company Presents has provided production facilities for festivals including the Henley Festival, the Newbury Spring Festival and the Canterbury Festival.
John also manages the 1980's band, The Flying Pickets.
