The Association of Lighting Designers is delighted to be sponsoring the new TMA award for lighting design. The Theatrical Management Association (TMA) has announced the nominations for their annual Theatre Awards, presented in association with The Stage.
This is an important recognition of the invaluable contribution Lighting Designers play in producing theatres across the nation. Excellent work is flourishing around the UK and has until now gone unrecognized, except in the West End where the Olivier award for lighting is more than 25 years old. This long overdue TMA award will celebrate the immense skill and creativity brought to productions that are often created under tighter technical constraints than in the West End. It will celebrate the high calibre of talent presently employed, and will also give producing theatres an additional reward for fostering lighting design excellence. The ALD is happy that this new award will help the art of lighting design to be equally valued with the rest of the creative team.
Derek Nicholls, president of the TMA said: "The Theatre Awards recognise the creative excellence, both individual and collaborative, that is to be found in the exceptional work presented in theatres across the country. We are delighted to play our part in rewarding that excellence."
The winners will be revealed at a special ceremony to be held on Sunday 26 October 2008 at the Hampstead Theatre, London.
