Latest version of the acclaimed VSFX Optical Effect System launched at LDI in Las Vegas
Even in this age of video projectors, media servers and digital lighting, the VSFX Optical Effect System from White Light has continued to be the system of choice for theatrical lighting designers looking to create smooth, subtle moving effects for the stage - whether that be moving clouds, water, fire, smoke or more. VSFX has been used on shows around the world, including all of the worldwide productions of the smash hit musical Dirty Dancing.
Now White Light is delighted to mark the eighteenth birthday of the VSFX system with the launch of VSFX3, which made its debut last month at the LDI Show in Las Vegas.
Created by White Light in 1990, the first VSFX90 represented a dramatic update of the long-serving moving photographic image glass disc effect range from Strand Lighting, replacing the manually set speed and direction via push wheel with remote control of speed and direction from the lighting console, yet retaining compatibility with any Strand glass effect disk, projector, lens or accessory. In its eighteen years, VSFX has seen service on an enormous range of shows, creating moving effects of unsurpassed smoothness and subtlety. During that period the range of possible effects and applications for VSFX have also been increased, with DMX control, new projector options (including the new Robert Juliat projector, and ETC’s Source Par MCM), new lens options (including the Source Four lens range via an adaptor plate), new cloud disks from DHA Lighting and more.
VSFX3 further updates the VSFX drive unit, retaining all of the strengths for which VSFX is renowned while adding on-board DMX control, a new digital stepper motor technology which ensures consistent and repeatable movement speeds across multiple projectors, and an improved drive system that reduces the chance of the effect disc slipping while also offering slower minimum speeds than was possible with earlier units. VSFX3 remains compatible with all existing effects discs, projectors, lenses and accessories; unlike so many other modern lighting effects, it also remains completely silent in operation.
VSFX3 is manufactured for White Light by City Theatrical in New York, bringing all of their experience in manufacturing rugged, reliable theatrical effects to the product. City Theatrical will also be distributing VSFX3 in the US, while it will be available for hire or sale in the UK from White Light.
