Congratulations, Olivier Award Nominees 2012

The nominees for the 2012 Olivier Awards, which reward achievement in London theatre over the last twelve months, were announced on March 15th at a presentation broadcast live online for the first time. White Light, lighting supplier to many of the nominated shows, would like to congratulate all of the nominees - in particular, of course, those in the Best Lighting Design category.

This year’s nominated lighting designers are Howard Harrison for Anna Christie at the Donmar Warehouse, Bruno Poet for Frankenstein at the National Theatre, and Hugh Vanstone, who received two nominations - for Ghost The Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre and Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre.

Vanstone’s nomination was one of the ten received by Matilda, the show receiving a nomination in every category for which it was eligible, including one for set designer Rob Howell. Howell also received a second nomination, again for Ghost, alongside Michael Taylor for The Ladykillers at the Gielgud and Mark Thompson for One Man, Two Guvnors at the National. Howell appears again in the Best Costume Design category, again for Matilda, alongside Peter McKintosh for Crazy for You at Regent’s Park, Tim Hatley for Shrek and Catherine Zuber for South Pacific.

Completing the design categories, the Best Sound Design nominees are Bobby Aitken for Ghost, Underworld and Ed Clarke for Frankenstein, Ben and Max Ringham for The Ladykillers and Simon Baker for Matilda.

The full list of nominees can be found at the official Olivier Awards website, www.olivierawards.com. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on April 15th.

Though it now also supplies lighting equipment to productions and events of all types, White Light continues to be the lighting supplier of choice for many theatre productions, including such Olivier-nominated shows as Matilda, Frankenstein, One Man Two Guvnors, Shrek, Crazy for You, South Pacific, The Wizard of Oz, Ladykillers, Flare Path, Noises Off, Anna Christie, Children’s Hour, Betrayal, The Madness of King George, Midnight Tango and Derren Brown’s Svengali; and long-running hits including Chicago, Les Misérables and War Horse.
