“As venues modernise their rigs – layering in conventional, LED and intelligent lights – power system designs become more complex,” explains ETC CEO Fred Foster. “We’re introducing the Source Four Dimmer to address that issue, in order to reduce cabling and energy demands on buildings, while adding space in dimmer rooms. Attaching a Dimmer to a Source Four can improve efficiency and boost light output. As Jake Dunnum, ETC dimming product manager, explains: “In 230V markets, the Source Four Dimmer supercharges a Source Four luminaire by regulating output to support 115V HPL lamps. That allows a 575W unit to produce over 1200W of light! With a Source Four Dimmer, any Source Four ellipsoidal profile with a 115V lamp can outperform a typical 1200W condenser profile.”
“Sometimes it’s not all about brightness,” adds ETC Marketing Manager David Lincecum. “The Source Four Dimmer brings a new efficiency to tungsten lighting. On average, users can reduce their wattage by 23% and keep the same light output. Many European theatres using 750W lamps will be able to reduce that to 575W and maintain the brightness of their stages.”
While other manufacturers’ per luminaire dimmers are noisy, the Source Four Dimmer operates silently, thanks to its Electronic Silent (ES) technology. It works without fans and completely eliminates the noise from lamp filaments. That makes Source Four Dimmers the right choice for concerts, operas and other acoustically sensitive installations.
