It’s currently B Corp Month – a time in which organisations from across the world come together and celebrate everything it means to be a B Corp. As a proud B Corp ourselves, we are always celebrating our sustainability achievements yet just as important as these are the people who actually make up our organisation.
As such, throughout this B Corp month, we will be profiling various staff members throughout the business to hear a bit about them, their role at White Light (WL) and how they feel they contribute to the wider company as a whole. Today, we’re speaking to Ciaran Crowley, who works as a Hire Account Handler.
Hi Ciaran! So what is your professional background? Have you always worked in the industry?
I started working in the industry in 1998 as a Moving Light Technician, after which I spent a few years freelancing. My first full-time job was at a company called Spot Co, which would soon became PRG. After working there almost seven years, it felt like it was time for a chance which is where my journey at WL begins.. My first role within the company was working with Lance Peters and his team in bench before I was then appointed to take over the Followspots department (I mainly think this was because I would always beat the Bench team at FIFA!). After some time away, I then returned to WL in an office job, taking over from Roger Deane in Corporate Hires and working alongside Steve Bartlett.
What does your current role at WL entail day-to-day? How does this feed into the wider company?
I really working in the Hire team as no two days are ever the same. We are constantly taking in all types of enquiries and providing knowledge to our customers about the equipment we can supply to help bring their vision to life. Similarly, with such an experienced team throughout the company, I find that I am always learning something new and forever growing my own skillset.
What do you like about your role?
In general, I really enjoy meeting and talking to new people, so this role suits me perfectly in that sense. I am also a keen learner so developing my own knowledge, as stated above, is something I relish – as is then using this to benefit our customers.
Do you have a particularly memorable project that you’ve worked on during your time at WL?
My favourite memory at WL was actually not a particular project but rather an event. Getting together with a fantastic bunch of people to perform at WL 40th anniversary party was a fantastic experience and one I will always cherish!
Any other comments?
Just that I’ve been lucky enough to work in this industry for a long time and have been privileged to have met some incredible people along the way. Thanks for allowing me to share my journey so far!
